About the Position: This position is located at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, with the HQ U.S. Army Material Command, Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1, Safety Office.
Duties
Manages, plans, develops, and directs the overall command Safety and Occupational Health Program to assure adequacy of accident prevention controls in all techniques and training procedures applied throughout the command.
Provides authoritative technical advice in the development of new theory in accident prevention techniques, safety system design and operating procedures.
Develops policies and procedures which pertain to the AMC Safety Program and activities and which have command-wide implications; disseminates these to MSCs for implementation.
Directs safety and occupational health audits, surveys and inspections of subordinate organization programs.
Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates the accomplishment of the overall AMC Safety Program.
Serves as the FC-12 functional community manager for AMC Safety and Occupational Health professionals
Ensures system safety elements are incorporated into requirements documents and basic safety practices and safe physical standards are included and published.
Exercises a full range of supervisory and personnel management authorities and responsibilities in directing work of subordinate staff.
Serves as a member or co-chair of Army-level advisory boards, councils and working groups.
Requirements
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position requires a 1-year Supervisory Probationary period
- This position requires an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) FC-12 Professional Certificate in Safety and Occupational Health and must be obtained and maintain within 12 months of appointment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing and analyzing safety occupational health programs and policies (explosives, radiation, chemical, and related hazardous material); and applying safety & occupational health laws, regulations, practices, procedures to advise and resolve technical matters. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14).
