About the Position: This position is located at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, with the HQ U.S. Army Material Command, Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1, Safety Office.
Duties
Primarily responsible for managing the implementation, oversight and advocacy of the command safety and occupational health management system.
Develop policies, regulations, and procedures pertaining to safety and occupational health management; accident prevention and control; safety and occupational health training, and accident investigation, reporting, and analysis.
Assure state-of-the-art safety and occupational health management concepts, principles, and techniques are incorporated into all aspects of a Safety Program
Supervise the planning and implementation of the command’s workplace safety; safety audit program; safety and occupational health training, education, and promotion.
Plan, direct, and conduct continuing reviews and evaluations of the program's effectiveness and its consistency with established policy and with OSHA and other Federal statutes.
Direct, coordinate, and interpret the investigation and evaluation program of AMC subordinate commands, installations, project managers, and activities.
Lecture at schools and conferences and those sponsored by other organizations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- This position requires an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) FC-12 Professional Certificate in Safety and Occupational Health and must be obtained within 12 months of appointment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing, administering, coordinating and evaluating a comprehensive safety program. Work as principal manager in an industrial/occupational safety and health program for a large command and its subordinate organizations. Serve as an expert consultant on occupational safety and health. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
