About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada.
Duties
Oversees the physical organization of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) area, serving as an Assistant Battle Captain during EOC operations.
Ensures the Emergency Operations Center is properly prepared for the conduct of operations commensurate with the emergency or training exercise, and as directed by the Installation Commander.
Advises the POM Division Chief on all C4IM and communications strategies during contingency planning and maintains all POM information systems in a status of readiness.
Identify and coordinate training and deployment support requirements for installation support of Active Components, to include 10th Mountain Division and Corps units stationed at Fort Drum and visiting Active Component units, etc.
Analyzes requirements for support plans and recommends actions to be taken.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires that the employee may be required to work 12-hour shifts in Emergency situations, during deployments, redeployments, and other contingency operations and manmade or natural disasters.
- A Secret (Tier 3) Security Clearance is required.
- This position is Mission Essential.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1. Analyzing processes and procedures to evaluate the success of previous military training events. 2. Utilizing a variety of automation hardware and software programs in order to enter, maintain and retrieve data pertaining to items such as the Unit Status Reports. 3) Applying oral and written communication techniques to coordinate events, explain reporting requirements, prepare briefing materials and draft various memoranda and correspondence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Emergency Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
