About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types.

Duties

Responsible for military training support at a large multi-mission installation, which has been designated as a most optimized strategically responsive (MOSR) garrison within the Installation Management Command (IMCOM). Some of the duties are range operations and training area management; Battle Simulation Center (BSC) operations; Training Support Center (TSC) operations; distance learning operations. Ensure evolving training support capabilities are realistic and capture new and improved weapons, ammunitions, tactics, and training devices. Formulate and implement all training plans, directives and procedures, reports and studies for active Army training of units and individuals assigned. Coordinate directly with commanders, staff, and unit representatives to schedule and control the use of Garrison training facilities, areas, and ranges. Determine as to use of training facilities upon receipt of requests from Army Active and Reserve Component units, other Armed Services, other government agencies, and other authorized users. Plan, oversee, assign, and evaluate work of subordinates and the unit.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a Secret Clearance.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be willing and able to travel away from your permanent duty station up to 5 % of the time.
  • A one-year supervisory probationary period is required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Directing a Training Program which provides training support and training enabler services for individual and collective training requirements for the organization, 2) Synchronizing training calendars and work schedules among numerous stakeholders, 3) Independently observing and evaluating the effectiveness and management of an assigned program and 4) persuading others to implement changes to policies and programs by presenting recommendations and guidance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13 or above). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
