This position is located in the Small Business Administration, Birmingham Disaster Loan Service Center in Birmingham, AL. The incumbent serves as a LoanSpecialist and is responsible for performing servicing, purchase, or liquidation activities for 504 loans located within the Center.
Duties
As a Loan Specialist, GS-1165-12, you will be responsible for:
Performing a variety of tasks for servicing, purchasing and liquidating loans. Reviewing assigned loan file to become acquainted with the characteristic requirements, collateral, and terms of the loan.
Gathering and reviewing facts and data relating to the loan balance, lien situations, collateral, interest of other creditors, and any assets of the borrower which may provide recovery to the Agency.
Contacting lenders/Certified Development Companies (CDC's) to discuss the business, the loan situation and explore all available alternatives. Gathering information from borrowers, major creditors, and legal representatives to make recommendations to maximize recovery to the Agency and minimize loss to the obligor(s).
Analyzing potential "work-outs" in common situations and develops recommendations for standard plans for repayment of the debt through restructured amortization, extended maturities, etc.
Reviewing and analyzing requests from direct borrowers or requests from participant lenders in relation to servicing, liquidating and purchasing loans. Making recommendation on these requests to supervisor/team leader.
Requirements

- You must successfully complete a background investigation.
- You may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
Qualifications
Specialized Experience for GS-12: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector:
Experience serving as a loan processor, underwriter, financial analyst, portfolio manager, or other like position; and
Experience making repayment and eligibility recommendations on commercial loan applications for businesses with multiple owners, affiliated businesses, and other complicating factors.
