You will serve as an Engineering Technician in the Ocean Engineering Department of PSNS and IMF.
Duties
You will conduct a comprehensive review of test procedures including required references, NAVSEA manuals, specifications, manufacturer's instructions, and interpret references to determine that tests can be performed.
You will conduct pre-overhaul tests prior to ship's arrival and measure performance characteristics of the systems and document deficiencies for corrective action during overhaul.
You will review all pertinent test documents related to assigned tests and arrange for all test equipment to be aboard ship and properly calibrated.
You will conduct briefings and meetings representing the Chief Test Engineer for the purpose of resolving test problems, developing schedules, and providing updates.
You will develop integrated operational test sequences dictated by procedures and site conditions coordinating the personnel and equipment required to conduct tests.
You will conduct functional installation checks which involve a physical sighting for the installed systems prior to the start of tests.
You will analyze information and data obtained during on-site testing as a basis for judgments concerning test results.
You will develop test documents and procedures for performance of follow-up testing.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- MSP/PPP applicants must currently hold the required security clearance.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Walking, climbing, and bending are required during test operations at various work sites.
- You will be continually exposed to hazardous environments both at indoor and outdoor test facilities.
- You must successfully complete all necessary nuclear and non-nuclear training, and pass all physical requirements required in the performance of the position.
Qualifications
GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing technical engineering planning and advisory services for the test and evaluation of ship systems to diagnose and recommend corrective action.
GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: conducting technical engineering analysis or assessments for the purpose of evaluating and developing improvements in the operation and maintenance of ship systems.
