You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER within the NAVAL DISTRICT WASHINGTON FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES DEPARTMENT of NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY BETHESDA.

Duties

You will assign work to junior firefighters or employees based on priorities, requirements, and capabilities. You will analyze the structural condition of a building to determine firefighting equipment and apparatus required to fight fire. You will perform crash-rescue and firefighter duties involving air traffic operations. You will collect initial hazardous materials response information from hazardous materials safety data sheets, United Nations/North American (UN/NA) identification numbers, or placards. You will manage a fire and emergency services (F and ES) vehicle maintenance program.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position requires an annual medical physical and is also Testing Designated Position. Work requires participation in a physical fitness program.
  • This position is considered Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level in the Federal Service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Applying principles, practices, and techniques applicable to fire protection elements involving fire prevention, aircraft, structural, ordinance and shipboard firefighting; 2) Training personnel in fire protection and prevention; and 3) Managing a hazardous materials protection and control program (i.e., knowledge of hazardous materials used; development of contingency plan; deployment of vehicles with specialized equipment, etc.). NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications; Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, Hazardous Materials Technician, Hazardous Materials Incident Commander, Airport Firefighter and State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B).
