You will serve as a Lead Firefighter in the Navy Fire and Emergency Services at Naval District Washington of Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling or Thurmont, Maryland.

Duties

You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities. You will lead a crew of three or more firefighters assigned to staff a pumper, aerial ladder truck, or ARFF vehicle in firefighting and rescue operations. You will ensure workload is balanced at the fire/rescue scene or in the station.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver?s license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance for the Thurmont, MD location.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performing in rescue operations; 2) Assisting in the reduction and elimination of potential fire hazards; 3) Operating a variety of firefighting vehicles, apparatuses, or equipment; and 4) Performing non-invasive emergency and medical procedures. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I and II, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, HAZMAT Technician, HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT), Airport Fire Fighter. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications, you will be rated ineligible.
