The position is located in the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Office of Administration.
Duties
The BLS headquarters is currently located in Washington, D.C. but is in the process of relocating within the National Capital Area to Suitland, Maryland. If selected for this position, with an assigned duty station of the Washington, D.C. area, you may be eligible for limited telework with approval from your supervisor, based on onsite duties and responsibilities, while the current headquarters is decommissioned and the future headquarters is being built. Upon completion of the new headquarters offices in Suitland, MD, you will be expected to report to the Suitland Federal Center after receiving notification to do so. At that time, you may be eligible to telework with approval from your supervisor, based on onsite duties and responsibilities, and if consistent with telework policies and mission needs of BLS.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Plans, analyzes, implements, reviews, and modifies BLS policies and procedures for the telecommunications, health, safety and facility management programs.
Analyzes problem areas in building operations and facility management to revise and implement improved procedures.
Coordinates the resolution of building service complaints, including dealing with the lessor's facility management office, the General Services Administration, and the Department of Labor (DOL) building manager, and ensures that problems and issues are corrected or resolved.
Administers the preparation of special reports, cost estimates, and budgetary planning documents to ensure strict compliance with contract specifications.
Conducts safety inspections along with BLS safety personnel to detect, report, and correct safety hazards
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years old.

- Candidate required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level.
- Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.
Qualifications
You must meet the Basic Requirements and the Specialized Experience to qualify for Support Services Specialist, as described below.
Basic Requirement
Support Services, 0342: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower level in the normal line of progression that demonstrated knowledge of the methods and procedures for providing or performing a variety of functions and services applicable to the position to be filled: ability to plan, organize, and control work involving diverse activities; ability to gain cooperation and coordinate the work of others; and skill in oral and written communications. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
Management analyst or technician or other work that included study, analysis, or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of managerial or administrative policies, practices, and procedures
Administrative officer or assistant, budget administration, program analysis, or other work that demonstrated knowledge of an organization and its functions, and the ways in which support services can facilitate the work of the organization
Office management experience that included responsibility for directing a variety of support services such as typing, mail processing, purchase of supplies and equipment, etc
Secretarial work that required monitoring and coordinating administrative and processing work of subordinate elements through a system of internal procedures, controls, production, progress reporting, etc., to insure the efficient operation of an organization
Military experience that included responsibility for directing a variety of support functions such as communications, property management, mail service, facilities and equipment maintenance, etc.
OR
Graduate Education: Major study - public administration, business administration, industrial engineering, industrial management, or other administrative or management fields related to the position to be filled.
Specialized Experience
Specialized experienceis the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
GS-13: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-12, in the federal service. Experience indicators are:
Utilizing current telecommunications industry developments and trends to modernize telecommunications systems;
Sustaining parking practices outlined in federal policies, procedures, and guidelines;
Analyzing requirements, procedures, operations, and costs dealing with safety and health programs and/or facilities management and making recommendations for improvements;
Resolving problems to meet program requirements in the areas of administrative services.
