You will serve as an ELECTRICIAN LEADER in the Portal Cranes Maintenance Branch (Code 731), Crane Maintenance Division (Code730), Deputy Lifting & Handling Department (Code 701), Lifting & Handling Department (Code 700) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will verify work is done in accordance with accepted procedures and/or instructions You will answer questions of the supervisor on overall work operations and problems. You will verify work is done in accordance with accepted procedures and/or instructions while ensuring safe work practices and good housekeeping are followed. You will relay supervisor's instructions to both nuclear and non-nuclear electricians in assigned work group. You will give appropriate skills training utilizing shop training tools such as mock ups, in shop work areas or facilities, and on deck-plates.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Ability to use skills, processes and techniques required for the formal electrician trade. Ability to use electrical systems and equipment. Ability to apply detailed technical knowledge of work operations. Ability to understand operational theory and check out procedures.
