You will serve as a SHIPS ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS INSPECTION LEADER in the NON-NUCLEAR INSPECTIONS DIVISION BRANCH (CODE 133.1), NON-NUCLEAR INSPECTION DIVISION (CODE 133), QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE (CODE 130), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will perform electrical/electronic, electro-mechanical and sound isolation inspections on nuclear submarines and nuclear/nonnuclear surface ships. You will perform visual inspections of fiber optic installations. You will perform arrival inspections that are detailed inspection of systems/components to determine existing conditions (deficiencies/discrepancies) in support of nuclear reactor plan criticality prior to the start of an overhaul. You will perform in-process inspection, which are critical inspection at various checkpoints during the removal, disassembly, repair, assembly and installation of aforementioned systems and associated components/equipment. You will perform both shop and shipboard inspections. You will be responsible for performing oversight surveillances, providing On the Job Training (OJT), and performing supervisory reviews of Material Inspection Records (MIRs) for material inspected by other inspection personnel. You will maintain current knowledge of industrial electrical systems and associated equipment and answering questions of other inspectors on procedures, policies written instructions and other directives.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • I am willing and able to accept a temporary promotion not to exceed one year.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO INSPECT such as: - Applying technical knowledge in the electrical and electronic field, - Reading and interpreting plans, diagrams, illustrative or schematic instructional material, and other directives as necessary, - Working with various equipment such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters meggers, megohmmeters, etc., - Applying knowledge of remote control circuits, instrumentation, servo systems, and installation methods, - Using forms and records (daily inspection records), - Conducting surveillance checks of non-nuclear support signs for location, damage and other apparent deficiencies.
