You will serve as a ELECTRICIAN LEADER in the Electrical/Electronics Shop (Code 950) Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will coordinate work while assuring proper inter-trade and inter-shop handling. You will provide on the job training, correct improper electrician work methods, and assign work procedures. You will ensure safe work practices and good housekeeping. You will ensure journeymen under your supervision have the necessary plans, blueprints, instructions, tools, etc. to perform their jobs successfully. You will be required to successfully complete basic and/or specialized training for nuclear work performance. You will maintain basic qualifications to perform work on reactor plant systems and equipment.

Requirements

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE I have the ability to independently perform the most difficult and complex tasks as an expert or have been consulted by other employees in difficult situations performing duties including: - Instruct various levels of Electricians on proper work procedures and methods, use of tools, and safety pertaining to shop trade skills; - Direct crew members in the proper setting up of the shops' involvement in boat arrivals, boat dry docking requirements, undocking, and berthing requirements; - Verify work progress and ensure that the proper protective equipment is being used and safety practices are being followed by crew members; I have the ability to perform the full range of tasks on my own initiative including: - Verify work progress and ensure that the proper protective equipment is being used and safety practices are being followed by crew members; - Ensures crew members follow the work sequences, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. I have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision including: - Ensure that the necessary material, tools, blueprints, and any software and equipment is furnished and available to crew members to perform the work; - Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and work orders.
