The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an assigned unit's Mission Information Manager (MIM); the mission information technology (TT) process and systems expert at the assigned command, wing, group, or equivalent organization; in-garrison and deployed.
Duties
Analyzes complex operational and tactical processes and/or a variety of unusual problems, questions, or conditions relative to develop and employ command, control, and mission information, processes, and systems (C2MTPS) in order to support related mission activities.
Develops and maintains required programs to support mission needs
Performs required testing, troubleshoots, and corrects system and applications software discrepancies.
Manages mission knowledge, information, and situational awareness processes and systems for operational and tactical operating centers and units.
Determines C2MIPS requirements and recognizes and analyzing trends and providing instruction and orientation services.

- This position is emergency-essential (E-E). The incumbent of this position must meet all requirements of E-E positions and may be required as a condition of employment to take a series of vaccinations and annual boosters to immunize
- (CONT)against anthrax and other diseases and annual boosters to immunize against anthrax and other diseases and immunize against anthrax and other diseases.
- This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
- Work will require frequent and/or long-term CONUS or OCONUS travel away from the normal duty station.
- The employee is subject to short notice TDY deployment to meet worldwide operational mission requirements. Employee must be able to complete all pre-deployment training required for the theater of operations.
- (CONT) This may include nuclear, chemical, and biological defense training and travel by military air.
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and/or overtime and may require occasional 12 hour shifts.
- The employee must attend, successfully complete and maintain MIM qualifications and currencies per lead command, within 6 months of being hired.
- Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. The incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate TA certification within
- (CONT) appropriate TA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. A valid driver's license is required position.
- The employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance. The employee must attend, successfully complete and maintain MTM qualifications and currencies per lead command, within 6 months of being hired.
- Employee must meet all deployed theater deployment requirements and reporting instructions.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
- Position will include training in the carrying and use of firearms because incumbent can be deployed to contingency locations and participate in wartime and contingency operations where and when there may be a requirement to carry firearms.
- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
- All E-E employees must perform E-E duties during a crisis and/or after noncombatants evacuate. Failing to perform assigned duties may result in disciplinary actions against the incumbent up to and including removal from the federal service.
Qualifications

Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes Applying complex IT systems analysis and application software concepts, functions, techniques, and capabilities sufficient to evaluate the feasibility of proposed new systems and applications software projects, and to design, write, test, debug and maintain information systems and application software; IT system application software and systems development life cycles, including systems documentation, system requirements and techniques, design development, configuration management, cost benefit analysis, systems analysis, unprecedented design methodologies, data administration, systems integration, and testing; planning and coordinating the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software for a complex system.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of TT systems analysis and applications software concepts, functions, techniques, and capabilities sufficient to evaluate new and emerging TT security methods and principles, the feasibility of proposed new systems and applications software projects; and to design, write, test, debug and maintain information systems and applications software and ensure successful integration with existing and anticipated infrastructure in the database environment.
2. Knowledge of operational activities (such as special operations, personnel recovery, airlift, etc...), weapon systems, and command, control, and mission process, systems, and applications.
3. Knowledge of TT management information systems and applications software technology to isolate causes of problems between hardware, system, and applications software programs and to measure system performance and/or extend operating system capabilities to support organizational business processes and operations.
4. Knowledge of TT management information systems requirements and application software development techniques required in carrying out project assignments of considerable difficulty and with little specificity regarding approach to be followed.
5. Knowledge of support principles sufficient to receive, respond to, and ensure complete resolution of problems.
6. Ability to maintain an up-to-date awareness of technological advances and predict how management can meet future requirements.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
