About the Position: Perform law enforcement work to maintain law and order, preserve the peace, protect life and civil rights, detect and investigate crimes, apprehend violators, and perform patrols within the jurisdiction of the military installation.
Duties
Serves as a Shift Supervisor for the Law Enforcement force assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander at IMCOM supported installations.
Supervisory Police Officers are responsible for responses to and investigates emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service.
Exercises search and apprehension authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects, interviews witnesses and other persons involved, and determines whether facts warrant apprehension or lesser action.
Collects and preserves evidence, conducts long and short-term investigations on criminal cases and analyze facts to identify suspects and develops case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspect to trial.
Appears in court to testify as required in Military Court Martials or Federal and State Court proceedings.
Conducts traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer.
Performs protection duties to deter, detect, and deny unauthorized access at fixed installation, internal compound, and incident perimeter posts.
Operates the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with federal and state laws to transcribe data.
Performs supervisory and administrative duties relating to the police force.
Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.
Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Must be able obtain and maintain a valid (Secret) security investigation.
- Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
- Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
- Subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing duties in the following areas: preventing, detecting, and investigating accidents, crimes, and misconduct, apprehending violators, assisting citizens in emergency situations, maintaining order, protecting life, property and the civil rights of individuals, and assisting in the prosecution of criminals. Note: Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. The OPM Qualification Standard states experience must have provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
