The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate all administrative aspects and requirements concerning funeral arrangements and burial benefit applications for deaths occurring at the Little Rock and North Little Rock campuses. Burial benefits guidance is also provided to family members of patients who die while at CAVHS Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
Duties
Handles all administrative details of patient death cases including determining eligibility and counseling families on death benefits, preparation of all necessary paperwork, and release of monies, valuables, and personal effects.
Prepares forms/correspondence to finalize patient business such as death certificates, forms needed to transfer personal possessions and monies of deceased patients to their beneficiaries, etc.
Coordinates organ/tissue donations from the organization.
Processes applications to determine eligibility and legal entitlement for healthcare.
Determines in accordance with State Law and local directives, the next of kin.
Responsible for obtaining a postmortem and arranging for burial, making every effort to determine if the deceased left survivors.
Assigns a liaison between the organization and the next of kin for consulting, advising, and assisting on benefits.
Interviews bereaved members of patient's families, either individuals or groups, informing them of operational details in connection with death. Arranges for the release of remains to the selected undertaker and has continuous contact with out-of-area Funeral Directors regarding shipment of remains.
Communicates with patients, families, modes of transportation, schedules, etc., to expedite funeral arrangements.
Interview individuals to obtain information to determine eligibility for burial benefits.
Compiles statistical records on program activities.
Utilizes computer software to collect and store data.
Uses database to track program monitors.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, subject to change based on the needs of the Facility

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/10/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:At least one year experience in the normal line of progression at a GS5 level.
Excellent customer service communicating with a diverse population to discuss death of family members and burial benefits.
Experience in working with eligibility, enrollment and entitlement of benefits.
Ability to work independently without close supervision.
Must possess strong computer skills and the ability to use many electronic databases for complex disposition of burial/death paperwork.
Experience with written documents such as correspondence, memorandum, reports, pamphlets and etcetera of a routine nature.
Experienced in using computer systems and Microsoft Office products such as word, excel, PDF, ETC.
To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary but requires some bending, walking, standing and carrying such items as patients' records, supplies and personal effects. Employee must possess a gracious, compassionate and pleasant attitude and be composed
at all times when assisting families during an extreme emotional period for them.
