About the Position: This is a Transportation Assistant (Inspection/Office Automation), GS-2102-07, Term Not to Exceed 13 Months position with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, located on Fort Jackson, SC. This position is a TERM Not to Exceed 13 months position. It is time limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years.

Duties

Assists customers by providing information concerning multiple shipments of household goods, unaccompanied baggage, and professional gear; obtain contractor information to assist customers with claims with the contractor. Documents, reports, and tracks agent/carrier performance clearly and accurately daily to identify poor performance and perform necessary required action for correction. Processes inbound/outbound inspection data through Transportation Operational Property System (TOPS), Defense Property System (DPS) and/or other required systems. Inspects contractor's performance at owner's residence and at warehouse during packaging, packing, crating, loading, shipping, unloading, uncrating, and unpacking. Ensures the customer understands the contractor and their own personal responsibilities in connection with the shipment of their personal property.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires temporary duty (TDY) business travel approximately 20% of the time.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate valid state driver's license.
  • May be required to work various hours to include holidays, weekends, or on-call duty.
  • Overtime may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays and weekends in support of related mission requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government vehicle operation certificate, within 30 days of employment.
  • A qualified typist (at least 40 wpm with 3 or fewer errors) is required.
  • Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:1) utilizing automated transportation systems to access, retrieve, and/or generate various transportation data and reports. AND 2) Interpreting regulations in relation to transporting of customers household goods. AND 3) Inspecting contractor's performance during packaging, crating/uncrating, loading/unloading and shipping. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
