About the Position: This is a permanent Transportation Assistant (Inspection/Office Automation) position with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, Logistics Readiness Center, located on Fort Jackson, SC.
Duties
Assists customers by providing information concerning multiple shipments of household goods, unaccompanied baggage, and professional gear; obtain contractor information to assist customers with claims (Inconvenience and HHG's) with the contractor.
Documents, reports, and tracks agent/carrier performance clearly and accurately daily to identify poor performance and perform necessary required action for correction.
Inspects contractor's performance at owner's residence and at warehouse during packaging, packing, crating, loading, shipping, unloading, uncrating, and unpacking.
Processes inbound/outbound inspection data through Transportation Operational Property System (TOPS), Defense Property System (DPS) and/or other required systems.
Ensures the customer understands the contractor and their own personal responsibilities in connection with the shipment of their personal property.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of approximately 20% of the time.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- May be required to work various hours to include holidays, weekends, or on-call duty.
- Overtime may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays and weekends in support of related mission requirements.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government vehicle operation certificate, within 30 days of employment.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Assists interpreting regulations to pack and containerize personal property shipments. OR Assists identifying or inspecting deficiencies in packing methods and requirements to determine extent and severity of any potential problem areas. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
