Duties

This position performs docketing and legal report development using computerized case tracking and record-keeping systems. Duties include, but are not limited to: Inputs information into databases and systems and updates records; Develops and maintains automated records from initial referral to final disposition and case file closure; Extracts requested statistical data, when requested; Receives and reviews incoming case files and documents and determines the nature of USAO interest and cause of action; Updates databases and systems to record status changes in all items docketed; Reviews reports to identify errors. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Travel Required: Only occasional travel may be required (training).

To be eligible for a recent graduate appointment, ALL of the following requirements must be met: Recent Graduates must have obtained a qualifying associates, bachelors, master's, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying accredited educational institution within the previous 2 years unless military service interfered with a veteran's eligibility to apply during that two year time frame. Veterans meeting the above exclusion may apply within 2 years of discharge or 6 years from the date of receipt of the degree whichever comes first. (Go to http://www.ed.gov/accreditation?src=rn to verify accreditation status). Recent graduates must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States. (Currently, natives of American Samoa, Swains Island and certain inhabitants of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are the only groups that owe permanent allegiance to the United States.) You must successfully complete a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment. All recent graduates are required to sign a Pathways Recent Graduate Participant Agreement. Recent Graduates serve a trial period for the entire duration of their excepted service appointment. Qualification requirements as outlined below: GS-05: To be qualified at the GS-05 level, you must have: at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level; or four (4) years of education above the high school level; or a combination of both specialized experience and education as explained below. Specialized Experience is defined as performing various clerical/administrative duties in support of the operation of an office; for example, reviewing documents with basic legal implications for accuracy and completeness, receiving and routing incoming mail, responding to inquiries; typing and formatting correspondence and forms; maintaining filing systems; and performing data entry within an electronic automated database system; OR, Education: Four years of education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the prerequisite. One year of full-time study is defined as 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) or the equivalent or 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for 36 weeks in business, secretarial or technical school; OR, Combination of education and specialized experience: Only education more than the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)

Education

All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at an institution that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications.
