Do you have experience performing field engineering, contract administration, and troubleshooting of utility systems? If so, please consider joining the Office of the Research Facilities, Division of Technical Resources! As an Engineering Technician you will support the Division in the management, operation, and maintenance of utility services including steam, chilled water, compressed air, natural gas, sewer, and domestic water.

Duties

As an Engineering Technician, you will, Respond to immediate utility distribution system problems relating to a distribution system and/or component failure. Perform field-engineering analyses or utility distribution systems and components to assure that they continue to meet the minimum requirements to assure system integrity. Assist utility engineers and consultants in conducting computer modeling and simulations to analyze utility distribution systems to assure that the systems and components are operating within their designed parameters. Write utility correspondence and contract documentation such as scopes of work or Statement of Work (SOW), cost estimates to explain, provide directions, and to procure and resolve equipment and system problems. Perform periodic analyses, inspections, and reviews of utility distribution systems to identify system deficiencies relative to capacity, flexibility, component condition, reliability, efficiency, operation, maintenance and safety. Attend design and construction meetings were applicable. Manage utility maintenance contracts and projects.

Requirements

Qualifications

In order to qualify for an Engineering Technician, GS-0802 position at the GS-11 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-10 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: designing and developing technical drawings in support of an engineering project; preparing project plans including overall project scheduling and engineering requirements; investigating project sites to determine the condition of a facility or property and evaluating and recording observations and technical information; preparing project cost and manpower estimates; and developing and presenting briefings on project plans and designs. In order to qualify for an Engineering Technician, GS-0802 position at the GS-12 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: directing technical staff in field investigations and surveys of construction or engineering projects to obtain facility or equipment data; determining data collection and analysis procedures for facilities or construction or engineering projects; providing recommendations to senior engineering staff on project designs; reviewing specifications of proposed construction or engineering plans to ensure economical and effective performance of utility systems; coordinating internal organizational staff and external parties to accomplish construction or engineering objectives.
