Duties

As the Engineering Technician, within the Office of Research Facilities (ORF) you will: Apply knowledge to perform field engineering, troubleshooting, operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, medical gas, fire protection, life safety & building automation systems. Performing a variety of highly specialized tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and calibration of electronic controls and indicating and recording systems used on industrial machinery or by engineers or in energy monitoring and control systems. Develop tests and implements methods for evaluating, analyzing and correcting facilities control systems malfunctions to return system to automatic operation and energy efficiency. Compose utility correspondence and contract documentation such as statements of work, cost estimates, to provide directions and to procure support to resolve equipment and system problems. Providing technical advice and assistance to various commercial contractors and inspects contractor installed projects. Analyzing system failures to determine cause (hardware field devices, system communications) and makes appropriate repairs. Perform Contracting Officer Representative (COR) duties to include: Managing project documentation, evaluating contractor proposals, reviewing and approving contractor schedules, preparing government statements of work and cost estimates, performing project inspections etc.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-12 level, You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: resolving facilities issues related to areas such as: mechanical, electrical, plumbing and/or medical gas; developing project plans or schedules for engineering work; inspecting utility systems to document needed repairs; monitoring completion of facilities contracts; creating correspondence and documentation for utilities programs and contracts. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
