5 years' experience in pharmacy-based practice, pharmacy-based education, or a combination preferred by management, but not required.
Duties
Plan, lecture, demonstrate, and provide practical exercises in any one or a variety of classes in the Pharmacy Specialist (68Q, 91Q) Course which
provides students with knowledge of the basic principles and procedures of pharmacy technology.
Plan and instruct classes such as: academic instruction in the technical areas of physiology/pathology and pharmacology, pharmaceutical
calculations, organic and inorganic chemistry, manufacturer data, side effects, and toxicity.
Provide instruction in preparation of common pharmaceutical dosage forms, outpatient and inpatient dispensing procedures, unit dose, and pharmacy management techniques.
Develop instructional material dealing with pharmacy laboratory procedures for Pharmacy Technician Course, continuing education, and correspondence courses offered by METC.
Analyze current Program of Instruction (POI), Army Education Policy, systems approach to training process and develops recommendations for changes in the Pharmacy Specialist Course curriculum.
Identify and recommend areas for possible program changes, such as, curriculum and course improvements, types of certified and uncertified faculty members needed, and additional funding required.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the
duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to
consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- Must have and maintain a National Technician Certification Board as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT), be a Registered Pharmacist
(RPh), or a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.

Basic Requirements for Training Instructor (Pharmacy) GS-1712-09:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes experience in pharmacy-based practice, pharmacy-based education, or a combination. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Health Science or Education.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
