You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST for TRIDENT TRAINING FACILITY, BANGOR.

Duties

You will conduct safety reviews/evaluations of course modifications and/or new high-risk training courses/evolutions to include risk assessment, policy compliance, and observations of proposed training, and inspections of training platforms. You will assist in designing and developing local policy, PreMishap Plans, Emergency Action Plans, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and other safety procedures. You will develop, maintain and update procedures to train Learning Site High-Risk Training Safety Officers (HRTSOs) in accordance with applicable instructions. You will serve as the Technical Expert advising on principles and techniques of safety and occupational health management in the prevention and control of mishaps in such areas as work methods, protection devices, and motivational techniques. You will evaluate new work processes to identify potential safety and/or health hazards in the workplace and to determine the need for personnel protective controls.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Utilizing knowledge of safety and occupational health practices, procedures, law, and regulations to evaluate High-Risk Training safety conditions as related to maintenance, transportation, storage, and use of high explosives; Developing, recommending, and executing safety practices that will control or eliminate unsafe conditions critically affecting organizational activities; Planning and administering a comprehensive safety inspection program according electrical/electronic maintenance and fire prevention practices and procedures; and Coordinating the control of hazardous situations arising from industrial operations and High-Risk Training evolutions. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

Successful completion of three "3" full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
