You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH MANAGER in the Safety and Health Tech Branch, Executive Department of TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR, Washington.

Duties

Organizing and administering the various safety and occupational health programs within an Industrial area. Identifying, analyzing, and evaluating a variety of hazards for personnel; assessing complex safety program elements resulting from military requirements to perform naval industrial construction, repair, and maintenance activities on submarines. Formulating and implementing local safety directives. Conducting safety education and awareness Recommending hazard control techniques that will minimize or eliminate unsafe operations and conditions critically affecting a major program of fleet readiness.

Requirements

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • Position requires regular and recurring shipboard and shop inspections, involving considerable walking, bending, stooping, crawling, carrying of light items and climbing vertical ladders.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector planning and coordinating a safety program that assesses the health hazards associated with industrial construction, repair, and maintenance activities; formulating and implementing local safety directives; conducting safety education and awareness; analyzing processes to identify and control hazardous environmental operational conditions; and experience leading or supervising others in hazard control techniques.
