About the Position: Serve as a Detective within the Criminal Investigation Branch at the Office of the Provost Marshal, on Joint Base Lewis McChord WA.

Duties

Conducts investigations to apprehend and/or detain persons. Develops information on suspects concerning their habits, associates, characteristics, aliases, and other personal information and uses such information in the investigative process. Serve as Point of Contact (POC) for civil law enforcement agencies required to serve due process to military and civilian personnel on the installation. Responsible for the proper documentary control of the safe and secure storage of all evidence obtained during investigations, raids, etc.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy or graduate within a one year of hire date, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Successfully graduated from the USAMPS Military Police Investigator Course or complete within one year of hire date.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements. These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • This position requires a drug test.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • This position is designated as Mission Essential.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • This position requires a secret clearance.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • This position is designated as KEY position IAW AR 690-11, Para 1-11.
