You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist in the (MCCES) Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School in the Training Command (TRNGCMD) of TRAINING AND EDUCATION COMMAND.

Duties

You will plan, manage, coordinate, and evaluate the Navy/Marine Corps Occupational Health Program. You will provide guidance on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for training or administrative functions. You will develop and prepare local safety and occupational directives through adaptation of higher command instructions and policies. You will receive and investigate employee reports of unsafe or unhealthy working conditions. You will initiate and provide continuing education in the form of recurring (Monthly) Safety Training; prepare lesson plans and conduct formal classroom training for the Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School Collateral Safety Duty personnel.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Normal vision and ability to distinguish colors is required.
  • Normal dexterity is required in both hands.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Conducting safety and health inspections and recommending measures to eliminate or control hazardous practices and conditions. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

OR

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
