About the Position: This position is in the Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms with the Directorate of Resource Management. The City of Twentynine Palms is the home of Joshua Tree National Park Headquarters and Main Park Entrance and proud host of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, the world's largest Marine Corps training base. The city is renowned for its world-class murals and artists, supportive business climate, beautiful natural surroundings, desert and mountain vistas.

Duties

Serve as the Command Safety Manager within organization which plans, coordinates, conducts, directs, and evaluates a comprehensive safety and occupational health program for widely disseminated medical functions. Provide consultation to public works activities in the planning of new construction and renovation, to ensure that codes and standards are met, and that other safety considerations are incorporated into the design. Provide guidance on new occupational safety and health standards for local compliance. Implement measures to control or eliminate identified hazardous conditions. Consult and coordinate with experts including industrial hygienists, physicians, environmental engineers, security enforcement agencies, and fire prevention engineers. Recommend adoption of policies and procedures that create a safe workplace and a positive attitude toward accident prevention for all personnel. Represent the command in national conferences by organizations interested in the safety movement with local safety organizations. Administer a management information system that tracks safety deficiencies and the associated costs to correct the deficiencies. Develop new protective equipment and corrective measures that will eliminate or minimize hazards.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement up to 25% of the time.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
