Duties
Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise in administration to provide clerical support to CBP management. This position starts at a salary of $49,025.00 (GS-07, Step 1) to $63,733.00 (GS-07, Step 10).

In this Secretary (Office Automation) position you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals providing a variety of administrative, clerical, and records management functions within the assigned organization. Typical work assignments include:
Screening calls and visitors and referring them to the appropriate staff member or office.
Reviewing outgoing correspondence for the supervisor's signature for proper format, conformance with procedural instructions, correctness of grammar, typographical accuracy, necessary attachments, and appropriate coordination.
Explaining nontechnical policies and procedures used in office to managers and staff.
Conducting periodic training to update those throughout the office on administrative procedures and recommending changes as necessary.
Making all necessary arrangements for travel, meetings, conferences, etc.
Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Effectively explaining and prioritizing requests for information and assistance from staff within the organization.
Preparing correspondence for the signature of the Chief of Staff and maintains records and files for same.
Making determination to handle requests or identifying when requests need a supervisor attention.
Extracting data from a variety of sources and compiles statics. Logging and routing correspondence to appropriate office or person.
Organizing schedules of visits, making transportation and hotel arrangement, notifying organizations, and preparing agenda and other materials needed.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Working for the U.S. Government as a federal civilian or as a member of the military

Working as a contractor, intern, consultant or volunteer supporting the U.S. government
Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment.
