About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees
Duties
Palletize a large variety of warehoused items and/or equipment.
Handle vehicle controls to start, stop and drive motor vehicles.
Work independently with the supervisor available to resolve problems
Interpret information in the appropriate manuals to perform maintenance checks on vehicles.
Provide information to supervisor on causes of delays to accomplish projects.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Duties of this position require the incumbent to have and maintain a valid State Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to operate vehicles with appropriate endorsements.
- Because the duties of this position require a CDL, the incumbent is subject to mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
- Federal Wage System employees, WG/WL/WS etc., must satisfactorily complete the appropriate annual Depot Medical Examination.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Motor Vehicle Operator (Materials Handler/FLO) Leader without more than normal supervision. I can recognize defective or malfunctioning parts such as spark plugs, head lamps, and tail pipes. I can read and interpret regulations and technical publications. I can safely operate all vehicles and equipment to prevent injury to others or damage to property, in addition to selecting the proper tools and interpreting information in appropriate manuals and regulations to perform maintenance checks on vehicles.

Physical Efforts: Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require the worker to stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Assists in loading and unloading operation with responsibility for securing material by tying down, adding side boards, etc., and the even distribution of weight to prevent swaying of vehicle to prevent damage to cargo and vehicle while in transit. Moderate physical effort is used in operating hand and foot controls when driving, turning, stopping and starting the forklifts and motor vehicles and in raising, lowering and tilting the forklift loads. Frequently lifts and carries supplies, material and equipment weighing up to 50 Pounds.
Working Conditions: Subject to working out-of-doors during periods of inclement weather. Is exposed to serious injuries while operating vehicles over public roads and on the installation. Operates semi-trailer units to transport general supplies, material and equipment throughout depot and occasionally in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems over public highways to off depot destinations. Works on concrete floors and in drafty areas. May be exposed to fumes, fluids, dirt, battery acids, etc., resulting in bruises, cuts, burns, and skin irritation Wearing of hearing protection and other safety equipment is required during all periods of exposure to hazardous conditions.
