Duties
Designs, develops, modifies, and manages Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2/UDB databases. Creates and maintains plans, specifications, and documentation.
Monitors and optimizes database performance and tunes database operations as required.
Generates complex queries and reports and participates in the design of data mining and data warehousing systems.
Incumbent researches, evaluates, and tests available Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) and Commercial Off-The- Shelf (COTS) software packages to aid in the database creation and maintenance.
Ensures all security vulnerabilities are mitigated and that appropriate security databases are updated with mitigation actions.
Follows accepted project life-cycle and configuration management (CM) practices to monitor critical steps for major program enhancement projects, implementation, and recovery.

Qualifications
To qualify for an IT Specialist (DATAMGT/INFOSEC) your resume and supporting documentation must support:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
Apply IT security principles and methods.
Recommend the acquisition of, implement, and disseminate IT security tools, procedures, and practices to protect information assets.
Apply database management concepts, principles, and methods including database logical and physical design, administration, normalization, standardization policies, storage capacity management, and backup and recovery in order to program manage and provide administration on multiple types and numbers of databases.
Provide oral and written communications regarding change notifications, provide documentation, create program plans and other methods of communication.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
