About the Position: The 20th CBRNE Command Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and High Yield Explosives is the higher headquarters for the majority of Army's CBRN and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) units assigned to US Army Forces Command. Headquartered at Aberdeen Proving Ground North, at Aberdeen, Maryland, the command also includes operational Elements that are unique within the Army and Department of Defense.

Duties

Participates in management responsibilities including formulation, development, organization, execution, and assessment of a comprehensive safety program. Provides comments and recommendations on Operation Orders (OPORDs), Military Occupational Information (MOIs), and/or prepares Exercise Safety Letters of Instruction (LOIs), Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs), and safety annexes for OPORDs/MOIs. Recommends countermeasures that may involve the development/revision of training standards, equipment modification, or the recommendation to enforce compliance with standards or regulations. Teach safety training as part of other training courses or as a stand-alone course or development session in preparation for tactical training events/exercises. Provides assistance in all aspects of the Safety Program. Conducts investigations, reporting, and analyses of on-duty injury and property damage accidents involving assigned/supported units employing the same techniques and procedures as identified for training and tactical accidents. Develops and issues safety guidelines for readiness training activities and for other activities which impact directly or indirectly readiness throughout the organization and the installation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the selectee be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance for the duration of employment.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test screening, and random drug testing thereafter.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has a TDY requirement of up to 25% of the time or less.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by the employer.
  • Work involves visits and temporary duty at field sites as well as deployment and participation in exercises in a variety of environments.
  • Exposed on a regular and recurring basis to machines and equipment in operation, hazardous materials including compressed gases and flammable liquids, and construction hazards.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle drivers license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
  • This position may require the selectee to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or irregular duty hours commensurate with mission.
  • This position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential" and is subject to deployment. May require employee to perform mission requirements in hostile environments.
  • Position is covered by the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 and may require the selectee to have access to firearms.
  • Required to work outside, exposed to all weather conditions (e.g. foul weather, extreme hot and cold), and of unpredictable terrain or access.
  • This is a Career Program 12 position. Incumbent must complete all required training and achieve the CP-12 Level 1 and Explosives Safety Level 1 professional certificates within 12 months, or prior to deployment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position may require the incumbent to deploy with assigned unit for periods up 365 days.

  • Work involves frequent visits and temporary duty in CONUS and OCONUS field sites as well as deployment and participation in military exercises in a variety of environments.
  • The military ACU is the duty uniform (when deployed, or in field environment). Selectee will be issued standard TA50 for use per local requirements.
