You will serve as a LEGAL ASSISTANT in the LEGAL SERVICE SUPPORT SECTION of MARINE CORPS BASE.

Duties

You will perform the full range of legal administrative actions necessary to support supervisors in their management duties. You will provide assistance to staff members by planning meetings and conferences, answering questions and providing direction to employees on personnel, legal, and non-legal administrative matters. You will maintain subject matter legal files and legal records that relate to the work of the organization. Design, initiate and maintain manual and electronic logs showing the status of actions and legal correspondence. You will receive and read all incoming correspondence, screening material for distribution, suspense dates, establishing controls, and retaining that which can be handled personally. You will provide guidance to potential claimants on where to find the administrative requirements for filing a claim against the government. You will act as the collaboration and Information services subject matter expert by managing the creation, testing, migration, documentation, maintenance for the daily operations collaboration capabilities. You will serve as the Civilian advisor on all personnel matters (e.g. position descriptions, human resource qualifications, process personnel actions).

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position must be eligible to be certified and designated as a Notary Public under North Carolina law and must possess the certification to be capable of performing all duties as a North Carolina Notary.
  • This position is eligible for part time, substantial or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Assist in research of records, references, and material for legal technical assistance; drafting and maintaining correspondence, records, and reports; oversee operational budgets on logistics; and use interpersonal skills for customer service, problem solving, and convey advice regarding administrative matters or policies to all levels of management.
