About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America.
Duties
Serve as Protocol Specialist in all phases of the Protocol Office work at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Point of contact for internal and external customers who request guidance on protocol issues such as invitations and replies, official entertaining, proper dress, receiving lines, menu preparation, seating arrangements, etc.
Serve as Visit/Event Coordinator, responsible for distinguished visitors and others identified by leadership to include, but not limited to individual visits, delegations, conferences, social events, and ceremonies.
Plans, develops, and directs the execution of approved detailed itineraries establishing time and place of arrival, size and significance of the group, background of interests, and length of stay.
Plans, coordinates, executes, and directs the conduct of official social functions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A secret Clearance is required.
- Travel (25%) and irregular work hours, to include nights and weekends, may be required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience with protocol matters to include proper etiquette and military customs and courtesies for distinguished visitors (Senior Government Civilians, General and foreign delegations) sufficient to plan, coordinate, and deliver ceremonies, social functions, and receptions held in honor of distinguished visitors and to ensure appropriateness of all elements of planned function considering the status, cultural and religious backgrounds of the attendees.

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: business administration, political science, or management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
