You will serve as a Supervisory Interdisciplinary: Physical Scientist/Oceanographer in the Acoustic Models and Databases Division, Acoustics Department of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Duties

You will plan work to be accomplished by subordinates. You will coordinate with other Branch and/or Division Heads to negotiate, decide on, and /or coordinate work associated changes that may affect other Branches or Divisions. You will investigate delays, identify causes, and initiate or recommend corrective action to ensure deadlines are met. You will control time and attendance, leave and schedule ship manning to maintain production capability. You will observe, monitor, and make recommendations for improvements for interpretation of oceanographic, geophysical, and acoustic data. You will represent NAVOCEANO at meetings within Department of Defense, with other government agencies (both U.S. and foreign), at scientific and technical symposiums, conferences, and meetings.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • The incumbent must continue to meet Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) 704 criteria in order to continue in this position.
  • Periodic updates of the T5 will be initiated at five year intervals to determine the eligibility of the incumbent to continue to be granted access to SCI material and data.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience providing guidance in the acoustics, geophysics, mathematics, and computer science field. Experience with the technical aspects of underwater acoustics. Experience monitoring the progress of projects to ensure deadlines are met. Experience giving advice or counseling employees on work and administrative matters. Experience monitoring improvements for interpretation of oceanographic, geophysical, an acoustic data. Experience preparing branch budget and ensuring the most cost-effective expenditure of the budget. Education

Basic Education Requirement:

1301-
Successful completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
A combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

1360-
Successful completion of a degree with a major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.
OR
A combination of education and experience which includes course work in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
