This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, Atlantic Area, USCG Fifth District, External Affairs in Portsmouth, VA
Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to keep local and district elected officials informed on Fifth District and Coast Guard matters. Additionally, this position provides advice and recommendations to commanders, staff officers and other collateral-duty governmental affairs officers assigned throughout the district.

- This position requires a Secret clearance.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license.
Qualifications
To qualify for the GS-11 grade level: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include: Working with district subject matter experts to track, respond and address formal and informal Congressional and state-level governmental related inquiries, Government Accountability Office Audits and District relevant Federal Notices; Providing guidance, coordination and facilitation of requested site visits to achieve external affairs program goals; Conducting monthly telephonic conference with DHS counterpart.

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
OR
LL.M., if related
