You will serve as a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST in the National Museum of the Marine Corps of TRAINING AND EDUCATION COMMAND.

Duties

You will contribute to and support the Museum's Strategic Communications Plan (to include a social media plan), working in concert with the Museum's partner organizations, especially the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. You will plan, on an annual basis, a comprehensive schedule of media activities, including press conferences, briefings, and the like, which achieve both individual and overall communications objectives. You will identify, establish, and maintain close and productive contacts with national and international media organizations. You will develop program schedules and prepares scripts for press event participants. You will assist the Director in establishing and maintaining partnerships with community organizations, area businesses, and representatives of the tourism industry, working to enhance the Museum's performance as a tourist attraction.

Requirements

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card to make official government purchases for goods and services.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: developing communication strategies to inform and educate internal and external audiences on an organization's mission, programs, policies, and objectives; conducting research to determine Public Affairs/communication program needs using a wide range of communications media; AND evaluating effectiveness of communications initiatives and recommending methods of improvement.
