About the Position: Serve as a Supervisory Police Officer within the Traffic Investigation Section at the Office of the Provost Marshal, on Joint Base Lewis McChord WA.

Duties

Provide guidance to a staff of military and/or Department of the Army civilian police officers within the traffic section. Schedules personnel to ensure workload is distributed between all available manpower Responsible for doing performance ratings for assigned personnel concerning performance standards and their evaluation(s). May be called upon to perform other law enforcement duties not directly related to traffic control or enforcement. Primary point of contact in regards to all traffic accidents. Required to analyze facts to identify suspects and to further develop cases. Conducts long and short-term investigations when solutions cannot be achieved during the course of a normal patrol shift. Conducts long term investigations that may take several to several weeks to complete. Complete administrative requirements regarding traffic accident investigations. Coordinates operations with prior and succeeding shifts to ensure that incomplete actions are fully understood.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Obtain and maintain a secret level security clearance.
  • Meet requirements of Individual Reliability Program (IRP) IAW AR 190-56.
  • Subject to random urinalysis testing IAW Department of the Army guidelines.
  • Be able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment.
  • Pass periodic medical examination (physical, emotional and mental stability, etc.).
  • Pass periodic physical agility test requirements.
  • Maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Be qualified and certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants, tear gas, and radar gun.
  • State certification, if required, for radar and breathalyzer operations.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
