This position is located at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), VA Medical Center, Salem, Virginia, Volunteer Support Service. The incumbent reports to the Chief, Veteran Experience Officer in the Volunteer Support Service (Veterans Experience and Consumer Affairs Service) and serves as the Program Support Assistant (PSA).
Duties
Serve as a support to multiple program coordinators within the service.
Working knowledge of policies and procedures unique to the various programs aligned in the service and effectively translate that knowledge to ensure effective communication is shared by the service.
Responsible for monitoring and tracking of all patient experience initiatives to include progress reports throughout the fiscal year, which will require the ability to demonstrate strong time management, prioritization of job responsibilities, and meeting short deadlines.
Perform specialized duties on a regular and recurring basis to provide advisory and technical assistance to patients and staff.
Oversees calendar and schedules, tracks appointments, meetings, conference calls, and
scheduled leave as well as coordinates meetings, prepares travel papers, schedules conferences, and assists the Chief, Veteran Experience Officer with all administrative functions.
Timekeeping duties for the service line.
Serves as a control point clerk to include responsibilities of submitting, tracking, and processing purchase orders for the service line.
Attain and maintain computer skills on a variety of software programs, e.g., word processing, file management, VISTA program, EXCEL spreadsheets, etc. and communication tools such as MS Outlook.
First point of contact for the service line, and as such, provides information via
telephone, in person, and/or email to organizational leaders and employees pertaining to Customer Service and Veteran Experience programs and services.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 7:45am-4:30pm
Telework: Ad-Hoc VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/25/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Technical knowledge of the assigned Service Administration, Operations and Mission. Knowledge of an extensive body of regulations, laws, procedures, methods and techniques unique to the service that require extended training and experience to perform such work as: extracting information from various sources when this requires considering the applicability of information and the characteristics and quality of the sources; and performing assistant support duties including answering inquiries for information and making administrative arrangements where necessary.

Physical Requirements: The work is basically sedentary, but a great deal of walking to all parts of the Medical Center is required since the incumbent will be working with a variety of clinical and administrative services.
