Duties

Major Duties of the Position: Service and Administration. Provides supplemental instruction and academic support during the Quantitative Reasoning Center's evening Extra Instruction hours. Leverages expertise in academic specialty in one-on-one and small group Extra Instruction sessions to diagnose the root cause of student academic challenges and provide targeted instruction to enhance learning. Communicates with associated academic department on observed trends in student performance. Performs appropriate administrative functions, as required, in support of the Academic Success Center mission. Ensures the timely and effective offering of education both in and out of the classroom. Participates in faculty governance by attending staff agency and faculty meetings and serving, as requested, on committees. Teaching. Employs hybrid teaching model, responsible for classroom instruction through an associated academic department and Extra Instruction as scheduled in the Quantitative Reasoning Center. Instructs cadets in undergraduate courses and serves as academic support faculty in the Quantitative Reasoning Center. Prepares course materials according to published course descriptions and delivers well-organized instruction to facilitate student learning. Keeps abreast of current teaching and training methods to ensure the most innovative and effective methods are being used. Mentors students through academic advising and assistance with research and writing. Participates in professional development activities within the staff agency, and /or faculty wide. Provides student assessment and motivation. Works towards developing and improving teaching practices. Scholarship. Engages in scholarly activity related to the Quantitative Reasoning Center's education mission or individual's academic area of specialization to improve academic support provided through EI. Builds a credible reputation as a scholar through contributions to the body of knowledge. Prepares papers and presentations containing the findings of research and scholarly study. Presents or publishes research through appropriate professional outlets. Pursues professional development through membership in professional organizations and participation in organized professional events.

  • The selected candidate will be subject to a security investigation leading to successful completion of a background investigation with a favorable adjudication. The selectee's failure to meet this requirement will be grounds for termination.

  • The salary shown is the minimum (Annual) amount to be paid and may be set higher commensurate with individual's qualifications and experience.
  • You will be required to serve a 1-year trial period

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An earned Master's degree in chemistry, computer science, mathematical sciences, mechanical engineering, physics, or a closely-related field. ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES: Chemistry, computer science, mathematical sciences, mechanical engineering, physics, or a closely-related field. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and experience teaching undergraduate level courses. Experience working with service academy cadets and faculty is highly desired. Applicants will be assessed based on education, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and demonstrated service to educational institutions and the discipline commensurate with years in the discipline. FOREIGN EDUCATION:
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the educational requirements. However, you must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying in the form of an "official" statement of U.S. equivalency from a Department of Education approved (non-federal) agency (i.e. AICE, NACES), who will complete a U.S. Standard of Education Conversion.
