The USD(A&S) is the principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense on all matters regarding acquisition and sustainment of the capability to the Warfighter. This position serves as a senior Life Cycle Logistician developing, coordinating, implementing, and executing actionable Regional Sustainment Strategy opportunities for International and Strategic Logistics initiatives with Allies and Partner Nations, Military Department, and Industry (US and Partner Nations).

Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following:
Engaging with Joint Staff, Military Services, Partner Nations, Industry (US and Allied) and other OSD Stakeholders such as Policy, Industrial Base Development and International Engagement, etc., Federal Agencies such as Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), Defense Security Cooperation University (DSCU), Departments of State and Commerce, Think Tanks, Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC), etc. with the goal of understanding and resolving barrier with developing, coordinating, implementing, and executing actionable Regional Sustainment Strategy (RSS) opportunities.
Engaging with Operational Headquarters, the Services, and other Departments and Agencies, and as an active participant in developing creative solutions to barriers to logistics operations in support of on-going operations or planning for future contingency operations.
Aiding with the development of executable plans and actions for all logistics aspects of contingency and regional sustainment operations (deployment, redeployment/drawdown and post conflict) using International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and exportability practices, intellectual property and licensing processes, and Service Doctrine (OPTEMPO, mission prioritization).
Determining best practices to connect operational and tactical level actions with overall Department level strategic implications.
Developing a Regional Sustainment Framework (RSF) "dashbord" for progress tracking of regional sustainment strategies (RSS) and developing analytical products (metrics, weighted prioritization models, etc).
Develop/influencing policy and training by understanding where RSF impacts OSD policy, coordinating with policymakers to update policy to enable RSF.

- Must obtain/maintain a Special Sensitive (Top Secret) security clearance.
- Financial Disclosure: In accordance with the Ethics in Government Act 1978, employee is required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
- This position requires a Life Cycle Logistics, Advanced acquisition certification. You will have 48 months to achieve this certification.
- Selectee must execute, as a condition of appointment, a written agreement to remain in Federal service in the position for at least three years.
- This position is authorized telework with supervisory coordination and approval.

You may qualify at the NH-04 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the NH-03 GS-13 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to:
Analyze, develop, prepare, coordinate, staff, and implement life cycle logistics policies, procedures, programs, and directives to enable readiness and effective and affordable sustainment;
Apply the 12 Integrated Product Support Elements and Life Cycle Sustainment planning in the execution of the development of Life Cycle Sustainment Strategies and Plans;
Create and/or collaborate with multi-national partners and coalitions to support international logistics and/or bilateral/multilateral agreements; and
Support Department of Defense PPBE process or similar process to include Program Objective Memorandum cycle, and the use of Research, Development, Test and Evaluation, Procurement, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) funds.
