About the Position: The missions accomplished at Fort Eustis include combat and training development and the professional development of military personnel through various training programs.

Duties

Independently plans and presents material in accordance with lesson plans and within the prescribed course framework. Instructs and recommend updates to course materials in accordance with prescribed course framework. Makes adjustment in presentation or other instructional methods in anticipation of or to accommodate course content changes. Reviews lesson plans and course materials for all blocks of instructions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the employee to occasionally travel away from the normal duty station 25% of the time on vessel Situational Training exercises and/or vessel specific training.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be willing and able to travel on military and commercial aircraft or vessels.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires the incumbent to instruct and monitor student activities in high physical stress environments, including shipboard damage control and firefighting trainers.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain United States Coast Guard (USCG) Qualified Rating endorsement as Master of Steam or Motor Vessels of Not More Than 200 Gross Registered Tons (Oceans).
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain an Apprentice Mate (Steersmen) of towing Vessels (Oceans).v
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Able Seaman endorsement and a Lifeboatman limited endorsement and meet all of the USCG endorsements.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Lifeboats and Fast Rescue Boats (PSC-Limited) certification.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as, Marine Operations, Maritime Technology and Operations, Naval Science, Marine Environmental Science, Marine Studies, Marine Transportation. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
