This position is located with the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Atlantic Area, Atlantic Area Deputy (LANT-09), External Affairs Branch, (LANT-092), in Portsmouth, VA.
Duties
The primary purpose for this position is to manage and support the International Affairs for the Commander, Atlantic Area. The incumbent provides strategic advice and recommendations to the Commander, Atlantic Area and other staff elements working on international policy and relations and coordinating activities with the Deputy Commandant International Affairs Staff (CG-DCO-I).Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Qualifications
GS-12: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level (in the Federal sector). Examples of specialized experience include: knowledge of international strategies, concepts and plans; knowledge of oral and written communication methods and techniques to prepare briefs, speeches, and reports; Understanding of ramifications of proposals and actions on agency interest and the ability to relate agency concerns to the interagency and international community; knowledge of US foreign policy and national/homeland security policymaking architecture and coordination process; and ability to interact effectively with other US Government agencies and foreign governments.Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
