The incumbent is assigned as the Prosthetic Clerk (Prosthetics Program Support Assistant) for the VA Health Care System at Amarillo, providing administrative support and coordination in support of the numerous and diverse functional areas and programs within the clinic.
Duties
Major Duties:
Procures for stock, issues prosthetics, and orthotic devices, medical equipment, sensory aids, and orthopedic footwear for patients.
Handle applications and prescriptions for prosthetics devices.
Ensure the legal requirements governing eligibility and entitlement to prosthetics devices are met.
Render decisions on client eligibility for prosthetic devices.
Review requests for prosthetics devices from physician or prescription.
Certify purchase of devices.
Document all eligibility determinations.
Facilitate procurement of devices.
Route requisition forms for replacement items.
Receives, delivers, and distributes mail.
Returns used prosthetics equipment through proper procedures.
Process frequently purchased items under established contracts or agreements.
Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 8:00am-4:30-pm, Monday-Friday

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/16/2024.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: basic knowledge and skill in performing general office tasks, basic knowledge of general flow of patient care at the facility, knowledge of medical terminology, knowledge on regulations and policies on how to confirm patient eligibility, purchasing knowledge. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have four years of education above high school. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. (Transcripts Required). OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond (Transcripts Required).

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary, requiring some walking, climbing, and carrying light to medium-heavy stock items of up to 50 lbs.
