About the Position: Serves as the Education Program Administrator for one of five academic departments (Military History; Command & Leadership; Tactics; Sustainment and Force Management; Joint, Interagency, and Multinational Operations) in the US Army Command and General Staff School.
Duties
As an Education Program Administrator (CGSS), you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list:
Directly supervises department administrative and curriculum development personnel and faculty members not assigned to teaching teams.
Responsible for policy development, planning, organizing , directing and coordinating curriculum development and all recurring operations for a broad and complex department in an accredited graduate degree producing institution.
Coordinates and provides guidance to department directors, instructors, subject matter experts, and branch and functional area proponents.
Implements the Director’s plan provides leadership and guidance to department instructors in planning, developing, and executing classroom instruction, to include program evaluation and new program development.
Employs a highly specialized knowledge of the department content area, direct, organizational and strategic, and a thorough understanding of the purposes to be served in developing definitions of the parameters of the study.
Serves as a continuing resource as an expert in the department subject matter, management of the civilian work force, and Army, TRADOC, CAC, Army University and School policies and operating procedures.
Participates with instructors in planning and developing the curriculum for the department, and/or in a continuing evaluation and revision of that curriculum.
Represents the department and USACGSC at professional meetings and conferences and advises leadership and leader development specialists in the public and private sectors on activities of the department and USA CGSC.
Requirements
- Temporary Duty (TDY) travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
- May be required to complete a one year supervisory probationary period, if not previously completed.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance throughout the duration of employment.

A. Basic Requirement for Education Program Administrator (CGSS):Degree: Bachelor's (or higher) degree that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four-year course of study described in A above. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts with your application.)
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience coordinating and directing a variety of complex adult educational and instructional programs; evaluate, design and revise adult curriculum; AND administering and developing policies to faculty and staff.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
NOTE: All applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcement. Current employees applying under VEOA are subject to time-in-grade restrictions like any other GS employee.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required specialized experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the minimum qualification requirement using experience alone--NO substitution of education for specialized experience is permitted.
