About the Position: Serves as a Training Specialist (Healthcare) prehospital medicine subject matter expert (SME) and member of a prehospital medicine training development team, engaged in all aspects and phases of developing medical training materials position is part of the Individual Training Division, Directorate of Doctrine and Training (DOTD), at U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE) located Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas.

Duties

Research, develop, or revise a variety of pre-hospital medical training. Participate in needs assessments/analysis for development and maintenance of prehospital medical critical collective and individual tasks. Coordinate and conduct on-site visits to units in the field and garrison operations to validate effectiveness of training. Keep abreast of the latest technologies, policies, procedures in order to ensure currency, adequacy, and accuracy of the training program. Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and member of a prehospital medicine training development team engaged in developing medical training materials for MOS 68W 10 through 40 level (Combat Medic), Combat Lifesaver and other medical subjects. Work with Instructional Systems Specialist to develop a variety of 68W-Combat Medic and prehospital medical training materials such as resident and nonresident instructional course material, training support packages, exercises, and training aids.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience developing medical training literature, support packages, lesson plans, course material training aids and other medical training materials needed to accomplish the organizations mission; participating in design of prehospital medical training in order to determine training strategy of the organization; designing, planning, researching and developing medical course materials in order to implement medical training throughout the organization: teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); and work in the healthcare position to be filled that is required to train and instruct others on a regular basis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as, education, instructional design, or training and development. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Curriculum DevelopmentTechnical CompetenceTraining and Education Analysis Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
