You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY/PHYSICAL SCIENTIST/OCEANOGRAPHER in the OCEANOGRAPHIC DEPARTMENT, NAVAL OCEAONOGRAPHIC OFFICE (NAVOCEANO) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Duties

You will review requirements and establish priorities, plans, and budgets for sustaining near real-time operations between the operational centers You will assign work to employees based on priorities and the capabilities of employees You will identify employee training requirements, establish and submit development plans, ensure employee skillsets are commensurate with branch objectives and employee growth opportunities. You will resolve employee disputes, work problems and complaints You will establish employee performance criteria adhering to organizational methods, processes, and timelines. You will provide direct administrative and technical supervision to multiple Professional Physical Scientists, Oceanographers, Mathematicians and, Computer Scientists.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

For GS-13: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience implementing concepts, theories, principles, and practices of physical oceanography. Experience working within oceanographic data acquisition, data processing and data exchange. Experience handling of large amounts of complex data by computer. Experience interfacing with internal and external representatives in support of data collection, processing and data exchange requirements. Experience managing and/or coordinate a diverse and in-depth scientific project(s). Individual Occupational Requirements
Basic Requirements:

1. Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.

2. Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.
