The primary purpose of this position, PHYSICAL SECURITY SPECIALIST, NH-0080-02 is to perform Protection Level 4 (PL-4) resources protection and crime prevention and suppression program functions for the installation.

Duties

Ensure compliance with requirements for the protection of installation PL-4 resources. Provide training and advice on physical security and protection of PL-4 resources. Formulate local directives and coordinate PL-4 resource protection and security matters within the security forces squadron. Monitor the installation crime prevention and suppression program. Survey controlled areas containing mission essential PL-4 resources.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is primarily sedentary. May require some walking, standing, bending, carrying and/or lifting of light items such as paper or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in a typical office setting, requiring the use of normal safety precautions necessary for an office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
  • This position may require drug testing and the candidate may be subject to passing a drug test upon selection.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have, or within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement will have, three years of progressively responsible general experience, one year of experience which is equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower grade (GS-04), level, pay band (NH-01), or equivalent (pay schedule, pay band, etc). Typically, we would find this experience in work within this field that is closely related. General Experience is described as experience demonstrating the ability to: acquire and use knowledge of the basic principles, concepts, policies, practices, and methods of security administration; perform elementary developmental and procedural functions; assist other security specialists and/or perform highly structured, independent assignments such as: 1)Reviewing requests for personnel or facility security clearances to assure that all required information is provided, requesting missing information from the originators, and granting clearances when derogatory information is absent. 2) Reviewing reports of personnel investigations to identify the presence or absence of derogatory information and, with more experienced specialists, reviewing the impact of various kinds of derogatory information on the granting, denying, or revoking of security clearances. 3) Assisting experienced specialists in conducting onsite physical or industrial security inspections or assistance visits and assisting in the evaluation of findings and development of recommendations for changes. Or 4) Reviewing requests for information security guidance or assistance, identifying the nature of issues involved, and researching guidelines to identify the general policies and procedures that apply to their solutions. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. OR EDUCATION: Applicant must have successfully completed 4-years above high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education has been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Applicant must have equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience directly related to the work of the position as outlined above that meets the requirements of the position. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of security concepts, principles, practices, and standards relating to the protection of resources and crime prevention and suppression. Knowledge of the operation of and required standards for physical protective equipment and systems. Skill in interpreting physical security instructions, guidelines, directives and manuals and applying the concepts in various situations and environments. Skill in planning and carrying out crime-deterrent procedures. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Department of Defense Physical Security Certification conferral(s) are required within 2 years of the established employee EOD or initial assignment date to this position in accordance with DOD 3305.13-M, DoD Security Accreditation and Certification. The listed certification requirements may not be deleted or modified without the written approval of the AF Security Functional Authority (SAF/AA) or their delegated security career field representative.
