This position is located at the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (FS), Information and Security Services (ISS), Project & Provider Management Division, Process & Service Improvement Branch (PSIB), provide administration and technical support to the Bureau and franchise customers, for division-supported tools.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
- Coordinate the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of software releases. This includes providing technical guidance, conducting research, training, consultation, and additional support to developers, other technology support staff, and customers on subjects such as features, capabilities, performance management, configuration alternatives, and standards and procedures.
- Validate software patches, enhancements and system fixes provided by vendors. Perform tasks involving the development, testing, enhancement, and maintenance of automated scripts using industry-leading automated build technologies. The work includes defining requirements, development, testing, documentation, implementation, maintenance, evaluation, and disposition. Identifies system faults and coordinates with the vendors to rectify the issue.
- Provide training to customers on how to use the supported system.
- Provide vendor coordination and IT security coordination for supported system.
- Serve as a technical point-of-contact for customers to manage accounts and role access to the system.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized Experience:
For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes coordinating and performing Cloud based systems installation, testing, and troubleshooting of software releases, patches, and enhancements.
Examples of such experience could include:
Experience with leading the implementation of a variety of cloud-based technology such as developing cloud-based infrastructure with code; OR
Developing, implementing and documenting cloud compliancy-policies and procedures for operating, managing and ensuring the security of cloud storage; OR
Experience as a project manager in an information technology Shared Services environment with multiple cloud-based product lines.
AND
In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must have IT-related proficiency in each of the four competencies listed below.
- Attention to detail, such as analyzing system operations.
- Customer Service, such as providing technical advice, guidance, and recommendations to management and other technical specialists on cloud storage issues.
- Oral Communication, such as providing recommendations on expansions and upgrades regarding cloud storage, including Salesforce.
- Problem Solving, such as lead efforts with developers or vendors to identify more detailed coding issues and solve problems.
For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes IT System administration work that involves serving as a member of a team responsible for operation of enterprise level cloud storage systems to meet current and future business needs.
Examples of such experience for the GS-11 could include:
- Acting as an IT System or Database administrator (or similar role); OR
- Leading or participating on a cross-organizational committee for business process redesigns or change control; OR
- Writing reports on behalf of the business lines of an organization regarding project status and risks.
AND
In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must have proficiency in each of the four competencies listed below.
- Attention to Detail, such as ensuring continuous improvement in system stability and performance.
- Customer Service, such as consulting with customers to identify business and technical requirements.
- Oral Communication, such as developing and presenting system related materials for internal and external meetings.
- Problem Solving, such as translating new technological developments and evolving business requirements into technical requirements.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
- Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes utilizing procedures to assist with data recovery in the event of hardware or software failure to ensure customer requirements are met.
For the GS-09, examples of such experience could include:
- Responding to access requests by adding, deleting, and managing users; OR
- Applying Salesforce or other cloud service technologies to manage services and system resources; OR
- Reviewing change requests, asking qualifying questions, and help envision solutions based on these discussions.
AND
In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must have proficiency in each of the four competencies listed below.
- Attention to Detail, such as reviewing and organizing system operating procedures documentation.
- Customer Service, such as developing scripts for automating client functions.
- Oral Communication, such as assist with developing and presenting system related materials for internal and external meetings.
- Problem Solving, such as assist with supporting cloud servers including security configurations and troubleshooting.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
- 2 full academic years of progressively higher graduate level education or Master's degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems, management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or
- a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the field identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.
For the GS-07, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes performing Information Technology system administration work assisting customers with account management and role access to authorized users.
Examples of such experience for the GS-07 could include:
- Working as a member of an information technology team with information technology database applications. or
- Attending meetings on information technology job related matter. or
- Assist with the preparation of reports, studies, or plans.
AND
In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must have proficiency in each of the four competencies listed below.
- Attention to Detail, such as assisting in performing triage on basic end user IT incidents, network issues, and service requests.
- Customer service, such as assisting in providing first-level contact and problem resolution.
- Oral Communication, such as assisting in facilitating meetings with stakeholders.
- Problem Solving, such as assisting in troubleshooting access issues.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
- 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. Attach a copy of transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit.
Undergraduate or Graduate Education should be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
For the GS-12, you must have been at the GS-11 level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-11, you must have been at the GS-9 level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-9, you must have been at the GS-7 level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-7, you must have been at the GS-5 level for 52 weeks.
