This position is part of the Plant Operations, Government Publishing Office in Washington,
District of Columbia.
Duties
Reviews the work of the Keyboard Operator.
Processes initial copies of the Congressional Record, Federal Register and other necessary work.
Maintains and operates the take-out desk.
Ensures all manuscript materials are formatted in accordance with pre-established standards.
Assigns collating, stamping, and logging-in of work to available clerical employees.
Knowledge of the Congressional Record (style), Federal Register (style), and Reports and Bills (style).
Requirements
- You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
- Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
- Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.
- Working Conditions: The primary duties are performed in an office setting.
- Physical - Effort: The work is generally sedentary, but occasional walking and standing may be required.
- Strength test may be required.
- Selectees must pass a physical examination prior to appointment.
- Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
Qualifications
To qualify for the Head Deskperson, KI - 4401 - 00 , you must meet the following requirements:
Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a HEAD Deskperson. Applicants must meet the following Screen-Out element, JOB ELEMENT #1 to be considered for this position. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. The screen-out element for this position is:
JOB ELEMENT 1:(SCREENOUT)- Ability To Do The Work Of a Head Deskperson without More Than Normal Supervision which includes the following training or experience: 1.)Demonstrating the procedures and processes related to Video Keyboarding; 2.) Using Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) and locators, Extensible Markup Language (XML); and 3.) Interpret and use instructions, job jackets, and other production reports.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
