The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as the Confidential Staff Assistant to the Commander (CC) a three-star General Officer, The incumbent also supports two, two-star and two one-star General Officers, Chief of Staff, Directors, Senior Leadership, and Wing Commanders as needed with responsibility for handling a wide-range of special assignments .
Duties
Develops strategies for internal and external integration of day-to-day and long range high priority special assignments and projects personally, assigned by the Commander, Vice Commander, Chief of Staff and other Generals on Staff (Canadian and United States) as well as assigned Special Assistants on a wide variety of sensitive and confidential matters.
Manages the Commander's long-range planning calendar, and maintains the appointment calendar for the Commander, Vice Commander, Chief of Staff, and Assigned Special Assistants usually with commitment authority for scheduling appointments and meetings without prior clearance.
Acts as office manager and coordinator over the administrative staff, recommending any needed changes to administrative policies. Plans, organizes and executes administrative functions by providing a full range of continuity and background for actions and decisions required of the Command Section in current actions with established directives and policies.
Maintains close working relationship and acts as liaison between the Commander and his Subordinate Commanders, Directors, and Personal Staff. Serves as a source of ready information and institutional knowledge to the Commander and Staff and assists with transition process of incoming and outgoing Commanders and Staff.
Processes actions using Virtual Personnel Center (vPC).
Responsible for overnight of the Commander's travel by assisting the trip planner in preparing itineraries that accomplish the Commander's purpose for the trip and makes arrangements by working closely with the appropriate foreign country, state, command, installation, or company to be visited.
Establishes and maintains the Commander, Vice Commander, Chief of Staff, and other Executive Office executive flies, including sensitive correspondence.

- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military commercial aircraft.
- Incumbent will be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or overtime which may include evenings, weekend and/or holidays and may be subject to short or no-notice recall to duty for emergency situations or exercises.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- A break in service of more than 3 calendar days may be required for permanent federal internal and transfer employees. Severance pay is not authorized unless approved by the unit.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions.
For the GS-9
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include: (1) Knowledge of the procedures and rules of protocol in dealing with high ranking civilian and military personnel sufficient to arrange visits, meetings, and extend and respond correctly to formal and informal invitations and other
correspondence; (2) Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and format to prepare and edit a variety of written correspondence and reports; and (3) Knowledge of a variety of administrative management and organizational techniques in order to evaluate clerical and administrative work policies and processes.
OR
EDUCATION: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

LL.B. or J.D., if related. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
For the GS-11
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include: (1) Knowledge of management techniques and organizational theory for analyzing and measuring the effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity of administrative and technical programs; (2) Knowledge of preparing project papers and staff reports and skill in organizing and delivering briefings to encourage understanding and acceptance of findings and recommendations; (3) Thorough knowledge of the procedures and rules of protocol in dealing with high ranking civilian and military personnel; and (4) Expert knowledge of the rules and regulations governing official travel.

EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work, or have a LL.M., if related. NOTE: Must provide a copy of your transcripts

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

Expert knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and format to prepare and edit a variety of written correspondence and reports.
Knowledge of a variety of administrative management and organizational techniques in order to evaluate clerical and administrative work policies and processes.
Skill in conducting detailed analysis of complex functions and work processes also, ability to plan, organize work, and meet deadlines.
Superior ability in fact-finding, coordination, personal insight, and analysis of key issues, along with the ability to assess a variety of situations quickly and furnish objective and unbiased viewpoints based on findings.
Ability to communicate effectively with a high degree of tact, discretion and diplomacy both orally and in writing and to maintain good working relationships.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
