About the Position: The US Army Research Laboratory (ARL) is participating in an alternative personnel system known as the Laboratory Personnel Demonstration Project (DEMO). Among other features, the demonstration project replaced GS grade level with occupational families and pay bands. The pay band DJ-04 is equal to the former GS- 14 step 01 through GS- 15 step 10.

Duties

Serves as a technical expert, advisor and authority in a specialty field such as the law, procurement, or similar business program carried out at the highest levels of the laboratory. Performs duties requiring an expert knowledge of the full range of specialized methods and techniques of the field; the pertinent laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; the critical major issues confronting the field. Develops and interprets guidelines in the specialty field, where technical decisions are accepted as those of an expert.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Confidential Executive Order 13526 security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This is a Temporary position intended to last twelve months.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work on an intermittent or unscheduled, on-call basis.

Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Providing expert environmental safety guidance for major scientific and technical program; and 2) coordinating program efforts with multiple organizations, agencies, and facilities to build strategic partnerships. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (DJ-03/GS-13).
